Thanks for the good wishes, guys. Here's a couple of pics taken just now, as I ponder how to strap it all together. In the second picture, that's the real Black Dog. He's a complete attention junkie, and can't stay out of shot whenever he sees there is a camera about.

Why isn't it just simple to post a picture on this site? Other forum software makes it child's play. Here, you have to work it out from first principles every sodding time. I'll try again ...

Had to use Webshots. Could not find a way to upload directly from the hard drive. Rob - this needs fixing!

I've never had much of a problem just using the "Insert Image" button, have to say. Not convinced it handles image resizing very well, but it does get the picture posted. Unless everybody else can just see red X's where I've done so, of course?!

Wonder how Mr Dog's getting on in foreign parts? Looks like the Starship Pan is well prepared and ready to rock, hope the trip's as much fun as it sounded! Maybe even nice enough weather to actually get the sandals out...

I was using the 'insert image' button, and following the destructions, but it needs a URL, so you have to @rse about uploading the pics to an image hosting site and then inserting a link. I am sure that I have included images directly from my computer before (the Manx Norton pic was off my hard drive) but everything I try seems not to work. Oh well.

Thank you for mentioning the sandals. I didn't wear them, no sir. If it had been hot while I was around the camp, I would have, but it wasn't. In fact, I think I wore about a tenth of the clothes I took. Everyone says to take far less than you think you need, but I think that's something we all have to learn for ourselves. Mind you, it's a good job I wasn't on the pull - after a week in three sets of t-shirt, undies and socks, I don't think I was nice to be close to. There were a few things I was very glad I took: headtorch (vital), satnav (amazingly good on the motorways), inflatable mattress with 12v compressor (very comfy) and a proper pillow. Apart from a few basic tools and spare fuses and bulbs, which I didn't need but was glad they were there, the rest could have stayed at home. Including the sandals.

Hi BD, had a read of the blog. Very good stuff. You're definitely braver than i am? Confronting a witch who speaks in phlem and coughs? Madness!

Sounds like it was a right laugh

when about did you meet up with your friend? an have you got a map of your route i can gander over?

Weird...when I use the button it gives me a browse option that works for locally-stored images:

...like that, in fact.

Always thought the Belgians were a little bit unlucky in having to be either Flems or Walloons: neither sounds particularly appealing to the ear. And that one was obviously a right little charmer to go with it!

If I click the Insert Image button, I get a much smaller box that reads: "Enter the full absolute URL to the image to insert..." and space for a URL. (I can't paste in the image, obviously.) No browse button, nothing. And yet I have used locally-stored images in the past. I think in the end I just copied the image to the clipboard, cursor in the message, and pasted it. Strange.

I met up with my friend at the end of the second day, when I got there. I'd never met him before, but he was a really nice guy, and spoke good English. This was a Good Thing, as my attempts to learn a smattering of Danish were pretty unsuccessful. If you go into Google Maps, hit Get Directions, and give it Coquelles, France and Vorselaar, Belgium, and then Vorselaar, Belgium and Kolind, Denmark, it will give you the route I took on the way there. All motorway, very busy and rather dull. I took a slightly different route on the way back, to visit a bikers-only campsite near Venlo in NL. That was fantastic, and will have a whole blog post to itself, I think.
