What sort of things can be done to rejuvinate a forum? I'm happy to write articles regarding my newbie experience and thoughts on biking if that sort of thing helps. I rather enjoy telling people what I think! Though the wife doesn't appreciate it sometimes!

I think all a forum needs is people to do exactly that. If enough people log on, post a few comments, tell a few jokes, ask a few questions and have a natter, the forum will succeed. I love to talk bikes, I like to read of other people's experiences, and I'm happy to help anyone if it falls within the limits of my knowledge. Perhaps the last few weeks have just been a dry period for everyone. Time will tell.

| I for one will be sad if you guys all go, you've helped me with bike problems lots & not been harsh because I didn't know too much about bikes & mechanics. I've got a side topic if it might help get the forum going.. not bike related though sorry. If anybody likes Orbital they are doing a tour at the Mo, they are in Bton on the 10th June at the Dome, I'm getting tickets so if any of you fancy might see you there. So who's your fave bands etc?

| Doesn't have to be bike related, just of interest to folks. I did ask at one point for a "general" forum, but, hey...it's not like there are so many active threads we're likely to get confused without one! Music...I love music. Rock of all flavours, from 70s prog dinosaurs like Van Der Graaf Generator to modern Scandiwegian goth/doom like Tristania. Not sure if I could name my absolute faves (there'd be about a hundred bands in the top ten, for a start), but most recently on the heavily-played playlist would be Amorphis, Nektar, Mandragora Scream, Devil Doll and Navicon Torture Technologies. Orbital aren't bad, imo. I've always quite liked the old krautrock electro sounds (Tangerine Dream and so forth) and I've recently acquired quite a lot of dark ambient stuff - by coincidence, I opened up an e-mail conversation with the bassist of Italian band Canaan, who just happens to run a label specialising in extreme experimental sound. As he turned out to be such a nice bloke, I've ended up buying quite a lot of albums (with mixed results, it must be admitted - the good stuff is very good, the bad is...well, let's say, hard to listen to). Anyway, I digress...thanks for the heads-up, might make the trip over, it's not like Brighton's far away from sunny Worthing...

I guess I will mark myself out as an old fart with this post, but what the hell ...
I am pretty evenly split between classical music and more modern stuff. Classics: Beethoven, Brahms, Haydn, Schubert. What I call 'modern' is mostly out of the 70s. Currently on my iPod are:
Big rockers like Cream, Yes, Family, Free, Led Zep, Wishbone Ash
Folky stuff like Steeleye Span, Martin Carthy, Davy Spillane,
Oddities like the Bonzos, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Robert Wyatt, Mike Oldfield, Soft Machine
Singer/songwriters like Bob Dylan, Loudon Wainwright III (yes, Rufus's dad, or so I'm told), Cat Stevens, Leonard Cohen, Pete Atkin
And lots more nonsense. I can't say I like much stuff I have heard in the last 10-20 years, so I reckon I'm in a bit of a 70s timewarp. The main thing I would say is that I love music, so much so that I can't have it on as background. If it's on, I listen to it and do nothing else. If I'm busy with something, the music gets switched off. The only exception to that is while driving (not riding), when a bit of Dire Straits is worth an extra 10 mph on the M4.
Hehe. Over to you guys ...

| Wishbone Ash were the first band I ever saw live, when they played Worthing back in '82 and I still have a considerable soft spot for that triple lead guitar (actually, twin lead plus bass) sound. Fantastic band. The following week was Hawkwind in London, fantastic band when they were on form (luckily they were that time around). The 80s, of course, then went on to largely - in the vernacular - suck, as far as music was concerned. After a brief flirtation with some of the NWOBHM bands and a couple of honourable exceptions (Sisters of Mercy, for example), it was back to the 70s for me - didn't really pick up on "modern" music again until the mid-90s. I'd guess my collection's split pretty evenly between the two periods, although it is noticeable that the older stuff is mostly by bands people have actually heard of whereas all the later bands I like seem to have a fanbase of about 3. Never mind, perhaps they'll be famous in 20 years time... I'd be another one who has to sit and listen to music rather than have it on in the background. Never been able to mix riding and listening very well - it's distracting, a bit uncomfortable and usually aggravatingly drowned out by windrush, even at quite low speeds. I do like it on when I'm decorating, though, or tinkering in the garage. Even if the occasional urge to stop and play air guitar puzzles the neighbours.

Actually, you are right. I would have to include manual work along with driving as something that I can do to music (hur hur). You've reminded me of when I used to make and restore furniture for a living. I had a CD player in my workshop, with a nice selection of stuff. It was on if I was breezing along, but if I ran into a problem it would have to go off so I could concentrate. One CD I used to play constantly was a compilation of Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt and the Quintet du Hot Club de France. It has everything from jazz classics such as Stardust and Limehouse Blues, right to adaptations of Bach. The combination of agile violin and chunky guitar strumming is brilliant, and of course all the exceptional tunes, made me smile every time I heard it. Still does. And I say this as someone who normally [i]hates[/]i jazz.

| Well I've got my Orbital tickets for the 10th June, so if you get tickets Endo might see you there. I've been listening to my queen greatest hit a lot recently, now I want to learn to play the electric guitar. Can I go through a turning 30 girly chrisis? Still like my proper northern soul but queen esp when cleaning, good sing along while rubbing the hell out of the coffee table. I've been doing a ton of cleaning recently. I swear my cats thing its funny to bring in half of the garden with them.

My music taste may be a bit different from you lot..being a fair bit younger and all.. Alltime favourate would have to be Metallica! Awsome riffs, great lyrics a good mix of Metal and Slow depressing stuff. These days there is alot of toot being released but I can quite happily listen to Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Gorillaz, Jamie Cullum. I also enjoy some comedy in what i listen to, so Tenacious D top the lists for 'most chuckling whilst working with my earphones in'. BD - To be honest i have never heard of alot of the stuff you listen to!
