| Hi all, Well it's been a while since the GN has been misbehaving, but just when I think all is ok... she goes again after getting through the rubbish winter daily riding. It was really odd, started fine didn't sound dodgy then pulled into the car park at work just about to park up & the rev's start dropping , then getting irregular before she konks out. Well I've been through this before & yep the battery is stone cold dead, can't get the bike to fire up. So I've got the battery on charge in the office as I type. Got my multimeter out so when I re-install the battery I can test to see if the Reg/ Rec or Gen has gone again. I'll be miffed if it's any of those two as I had them both replaced last year (18th Jan 08) when the bike first started doing it. So the parts are not under warrenty anymore, will have to stump up to have them replaced if either have gone again. Spoke to the garage as I had the bike serviced last week & had the valves cleaned, Bike was sounding & running great. They can test them for me but I can do it myself (or get hubby to assist/ take over if I feel girly). I've now found a good one in Brighton who I like & do a great job, I am having my chain & sprocket replaced on the 20th so if I find out whats wrong they'll fix it on the day too. Sorry had to rant as it's really got me miffed. I can't believe either of those 2 parts may have gone again. (the battery is newish brought the same time as the rec /rec & gen were replaced last year). It can only get better.....:0)

Hard to diagnose over the internet, so I'll just say leave it to them what know, and accept my commiserations! It's a pig when something you rely on lets you down. Have a drink and think about something nice.

| Thanks BD, Yes I nice glass of wine did the trick, much more happier today. The battery is now toally charged so it can get me to the garage next week to be fixed. The naff bus journey yesterday just made my day worse, hence the rant. What can I say I love my bike & hate being without her. Hope Mrs BD is feeling better & still to recovering well.

| Sometime a glass of wine is more use than a multimeter... That, unfortunately, seems to be Suzuki's party trick - build great bikes, but with a character-building variety of electrical/electronic quirks. It's a well-earned reputation, too: I've certainly never owned one that didn't spring a few annoying surprises in that department. Hasn't stopped me buying them, but I do find a good technique is to have a second bike in the garage, just in case... Anyhow, fingers crossed it's something simple and cheap - loose connection or similar, rather than any of the charging system parts - and no more of those annoying bus rides!

The quality of public transport is the best advert for keeping a bike in the garage (and on the drive, and another in the shed just in case). I've only owned two Suzis, a GT250A and the 1200 Bandit. Neither gave any electrical problems at all (although the 250 ate pistons). The main gripe was with the quality of the finish, which was no more than adequate. Where I am living now there is no public transport to speak of, so it's not an issue, but I find that more and more I try to avoid other people - the last couple of times I have travelled on a train I have hated it, tube and bus the same. And yet when I was a lad in Leeds (pre-bike days) I would go everywhere on the bus and loved it. Perhaps I'm just anti-social, although I think people in general are less pleasant and more selfish as a group tha they used to be. Virtually every time I have used public transport in the last 10 years there has been some kind of incident, whether a fight or some aggressive provocation (smoking in a non-smoking area, for example), or just some drunken gonzo who 'wants to chat' when I don't. Give me the car or bike any time, no matter what the weather or how long the distance.
