Not strictly gear, I know, but I couldn't find a "grooming" section!

Having avoided getting my hair cut for 6 months or so, and not fancying the usual "number-two-all-over" I started to think about what hair I could have, and still get away with wearing a helmet every morning. Aside from having no hair or waiting for it to be long enough to pony tail, are there any other styles (or crafty techniques) I can try to avoid turning up at the office looking like an electrocution victim?

Thanks!

You could try going bald - it's worked for me for the past twenty-odd years. Grooming's sort of easy then, just the occasional polish with a soft cloth...

Prior to that, mine was long enough to just hang under it's own weight. Never liked ponytails, so left it loose: wasn't too bad for tangling, especially if you tucked it down inside the jacket. Sadly, until it gets that long, helmet hair is pretty much a grim fact of life!

There is something about helmut hair, that slicked down look even when you don't have brylcreme in it! I used to have extreamly curly hair which when I had been swiming or just come out the shower I would just ruffle and let be but with helmut hair it don't work like that so now saddly it's got a old mans parting. At least I should be grateful to have some. Hahaha

We should be careful not to let UKBike degenerate into an old blokes' chatroom

I used to have my hair medium-length (at least since I left Uni in 1975, when nipple-length hair like Rick Wakeman was compulsory), but I started noticing that I could see further through the trees every time I looked in the mirror in a morning, so I bought a set of clippers and cut it short all over.  It's been that way ever since, and I like it like that.  (The thinner the hair, the shorter it needs to be.)  When my hair was longer, it was terrible to wear a helmet - it was always either stuck down like a 1950's rocker* or flying away like I'd stuck my finger in the mains.  Shorter hair - no problem at all.  9mm on the sides and 6mm on the top does it fine for me.

And Roop - a ponytail?  No.  Just don't.

* Nothing wrong with that, I know, but ...

OLD? Whose old?

OK So I will admit to being a man but old! No chance. Not as long as I still have some of my own teeth in my head and that includes the ones I have had to buy!

Don't slide unless you mean too.

Don't know if it qualifies for "old blokes' chatroom", but this thread did inspire me to dig out Jethro Tull's Too Old To Rock'n'Roll, Too Young To Die - haven't listened to it in years! All together now..."The old Rocker wore his hair too long, wore his trouser cuffs too tight. Unfashionable to the end, drank his ale too light..."

Whilst age is a state of mind my mind has allways been a bit of a state! Forever young! Thats why people often refer to bikes as boy's toys, for the man who ain't grown into one yet.

Ok, I saw 'Old Man's forum' and I had to add my weight to the conversation. Now the average age has gone down to 30 something... that cool?

Anywho... I had bad probs with my long hair. I never really dried it properly and stuck the helmet on. Got to work, my hair was flat on top but there was a definate kink in it where the hair was loose to fly under the helmet. did I learn my lesson?.... Nope!

Still got the long hair, well, longer now (just passed my shoulder blades!) and I have to admit, I have a ponytail.... but strictly only for work! I have to look smart and keep it out of my eyes when using the PC.

Let it down at band practice though.... Oh yeah it rocks!!!

Yamaha FZS 600 Fazer ... in gold!

Ride safe, and look out for the Rainbow of Death!

There're only 3 kinds of people in the world, those who can count, and those that can't.

Roses are red, Violets are Blue, I'm a schizophrenic ..... and so am I!

Take pity on the man who invented the drawing board, when he screwed up, he had nothing to fall back on.

Stuff everything, I've always got my bike.

Hehe - "helmet hair"   There was a write-up in Bike recently of a guy who had taken a Monster to Bologna and back in the middle of winter.  There was a picture of him sitting in a cafe looking tired and scruffy, with a caption like: "Bread from local bakery, coffee by Gaggia, hair by Arai."  Made Oi larf, anyways.  (That's the great thing about short hair - never a problem with your helmet, fnarr.)
