The bike parking tax introduced last year by Westminster Council was met with outcry by bikers all over the UK, and efforts have been stepped up online and in London to overturn the charge.
On February 18th, Westminster Council will enter a brief consultation period before deciding whether to make the tax permanent. Following the successful slow-ride demonstrations towards the end of last year, the campaign group NoToBikeParkingTax.com are holding another demo on January 15th - more details here.
You can also sign the petition on the Number 10 website here.
There will also be another demo on February 1st at the Ace Cafe in Wembley.

| Likewise. Not that I expect much of a result, especially since there's only a few hundred signatures at the moment. Westminster are particularly annoying, having promised secure bike parking in exchange for the charging - well, I work up there sometimes and I've never yet seen so much as a steel post to lock a motorcycle to. Perhaps they meant some other form of security... My experience of our super-democratic government's e-petitions have been a number of responses to the effect of: Don't care how many of you signed it, we're going to do it anyway. Still, it's better to at least try: and no doubt my name's already on the dissident list for being anti-speed camera, anti-Iraq war and so on. If New Labour win the next election, I rather anticipate spending the rest of my life in a correctional gulag off the northern coast of Scotland. Probably.
