| You talk, we listen... sounds like generic corporate babble, but here at UKBike.com we like to look after our community! So from this day on, we have a new sub-forum where new members can introduce themselves, and ask the questions that just don't fit into the other categories. Ride safe... Tom @ UKBike.com

| Well, since I asked for it (thanks Tom), I suppose I'd better show willing. Hope some other people follow suit, otherwise it'll all look a bit sad and lonely here... Most of the following may have been gleaned from various postings on the forum, but - I'm (a youthful) 42 years old, married without children and working full-time in IT building large government computer systems. Aside from biking, I do all the usual boy stuff: rock music, sci-fi, loud and expensive household electronic goods, computers and video games and some of the less usual boy stuff: amateur dramatics (www.cissburyplayers.net, if anyone's that interested). I've been riding since my late teens, starting off with my dad's rubbish step-through Yamaha QT50, and pretty much never looked back since then. I've had a lot of bikes, like to change them yearly, if not more often. Ride all year round, every year and drive the wife's car maybe once or twice per annum, only under protest. I'd describe myself as a competent rider and an unexceptional mechanic, but can get by in either arena as necessary! Oh, and I can muster an opinion on pretty much any subject whatsoever. It doesn't have to be correct, or informed, either.

An introduction to my world and me...mmm...lets see. I'm a trainee primary school teacher who is fairly new to the biker scene at age 22 and have just purchased my first bike, a 125cc suzuki marauder, which I have named Alexis (yes she has a name ). As of yet I have not passed my full bike test but I am working on scrapping together the money for things like insurance, lessons and the test itself. Satisfaction comes from just riding Alexis around the village in which I live at the present time. My passion for motorbikes stems from my father, who currently has a triumph sprint, and my grandfather, who owned various motorbikes when he was young. This passion does not, however, go down very well with my mother who does not like me having a motorbike and I think is quietly glad that I have no funds to go any further at the moment. I will succeed eventually with my dream of riding around various countries with my father, who (if you wanted to know) goes by the name 'rebelman' on this forum

Next please! Me Sir!
My name is Richard, I am 55 and work as Health and Safety Manager for a large tourism company in West Wales. I am married (2nd time) to Di (Wannabeabiker on this forum) with two daughters from my first marriage. Musical tastes range from 70s rock (Led Zep, Cream, Yes) through various oddities (electric folk, Pete Atkin) and on to 'proper' classics -Beethoven, Vivaldi and Bach, not yer modern tuneless stuff you get on Radio 3.
Passed test at 18 while at Uni and got a Honda C70. I haven't had a bike all the time since then, but one has never been far away. I reckon in the 37 years I have held a licence, I have had bikes for 20 of them (7 years when I got married the first time and was trying to be respectable, and 10 more recently when I got ill and lost my sense of balance). When I have a bike, I use it 95% of the time - the car is for load-lugging, fog and ice, the bike for daily drives, commuting and general fun. I used to live in East Yorkshire, so I am no stranger to snow and ice, but these days if I have the choice I take the 4-wheel option. Currently I have a Yam XT600E (scruffy trailie for winter roads, fun per kilo ratio very high) and a ST1300 Pan which I plan to take to Europe next summer for a 2-up tour.
I've had many bikes over the years, ranging from the C70 (remembered with a lot of affection, as it took me and all my worldly goods across the Pennines all the time I was at Uni) to a Jawa (shakes head), various strokers, various trailies and sports tourers. I am a member of IAM (although not an old git, I hope) and my riding style is reasonably conservative - I don't like pain or hospital food, and I ride accordingly. I can go quick when I need to (or when the bug bites) but generally would rather arrive in one piece a few minutes later :-) That doesn't mean I ride lke a pensioner, though - I deck the pegs regularly and my back tyres don't last well. I tend to follow the old motto - safe, smooth and quick, in that order. If I know I can do an overtake, I do it. If I think I can do an overtake, I don't.
Last thing is that I really like this forum. There are some very good heads on here, and even though it's low traffic compared to some, it's always interesting.
Well done Tom for starting this sub-forum - it fills a gap that we needed.

| Name is Ian, joined the site about a year ago and it is the only site I really read or converse on. I wish I could say that my biking career has been a long standing and never ending one but I passed my test back in the 70's on a Norton Atlas with sidecar second time around after the BSA Bantum I borrowed the first time did not want the oil/petrol mix to do just that and so stalled to a halt half way through my 1st test leaving me not enough time to finish (So the examiner said anyway)(What would he know he was half a mile away around the block walking). I did previuos to this pass a moped test on my Dads Mobbylette (This way I could take my then girlfriend on the back) so like BD i had transport and could tour the world. (Well as far as Hastings anyway) I came back to bikes October 2007 and purchased a silly sized Triumph RS Sprint and have not regreted a single moment as yet. Untill recently I managed a small hotel in Wolverton, Milton Keynes but was made redundant when the owner sold it and so I have reverted to a trusted back up in earning the morgage namely my HGV-1 licence and have signed on with a couple of agencys. I am married to the same girl I started out with some 25 years ago and am now at the ripe young age of 50. Old enough to be considerably stupid in a considerate way and get away with it! Lastly I have two very special daughters, Rachel 18 and Mickaela 22 as above (Randomgirly)
Don't slide unless you mean too. Be sure, ride safe and enjoy

| Hi Everyone, I thought I come along to intro my self in to the commuinty! I'm James I been riding since July09 on my Derbi GPR50 and yes I had it derestrict =) does a lovely 56mph it has done 62mph tops one evening; never been able to do it again without going into the red! (which I never do) Well am from Northern England..... Teesside. At the momment am unemployed looking into an apprenticeship! hopefuly something soon! I've been looking to find a local club or group in the area but sadly I haven't ..... looking forward to make some biker friends (chat or ride with) on here and hopefuly find a group or club to join! Personal expereince with the Derbi GPR50 ..... well I wouldn't reccomond this bike to a friend or anyone because from July09 (from new) to now I had too many problems! first day of ownership the bike was refusing to start and the guy next door who works for Honda on the bikes couldn't get it to start! The shop couldn't find anything wrong ..... 3 weeks later same problem came up and nothing after that until December ..... went to a family event and when came to ride the bike back home the starter motor wasn't kicking in and when I had it back at the shop; it had to have a new starter motor and also at the same time the netrual and low oil light stayed on which i can't remember what they did to slove the problem! Now when I start it up as it is a 2 stroke i get smoke from the front of the bike and smoke coming out of the exhaust at the back which is normal but am guessing a sign of a hole in the exhaust at the front! So this bike is costing a bit to run! and also i worked out the MPG is 25.8MPG which makes the car I want (Honda Jazz 1.4) more fuel efficent as it does 46MPG! ..... Is this normal MPG for a 50cc derestrict? Safe Riding Verone! James

| Hi James, You may have noticed the lack of replies! It was never a big forum, but as of this year all 3(!) of us pretty much gave up on it and are posting here http://www.hostingphpbb.com/forum/wheelswithinwhe.html now, to see if it picks up any. You'd be very welcome to join us there. No, by the way, that is nowhere near normal mpg (you should be seeing something like 3 times that) and the smoking doesn't sound healthy either.

| Hi, to you all, I am not sure how you post anything on this site yet but I guess I will get the hang of it in time, My name is Keith and I am from Lincoln and ride an Aprilia Mille which I have adapted for touring, I have had the bike for tem years with no problems, I do all mine own servicing and know the bike well although I have only done about 20k miles, as you all know its finding the time and the cash for petrol. I will update my profile when I find out how to. Any way cheers for now Keith

I'm a sportsbike enthusiast with particular interest in modification and customization. I am not only a bike enthusiast but this is my business as well. I'm more of a nerd when it comes to biking so I don't have many stories to share. All I know is that from the moment I opened my eyes, I knew I was going to ride.. That's it.
This is a fabulous forum with great people. Hope to share my experiences with you all!
