Hi all, I'm not new to biking and not even part of the born again biker brigade. I've been riding bikes for some 20 years now and still get annoyed that after not making any claim in those years that a friend who rides same bike and all still manages to get his £200 cheaper than me and he only has 2 years NCB. yes he lives in a different location and thats how they justify the price difference. Whats even worse is the the place I'm insured with said they'd find the best renewal from there extensive panel of insurers so decided to put details on tinternet and see what they'd give me as a quote for a new customer (being curious). The annoying thing was that for applying for a new quote they did my insurance £200 cheaper for just pretending to be a new customer. Now could be mistaken here but they did say that they searched earlier from their extensive range of insurers, so how is it feasable for me to get my insurance quote cheaper for pretending to be a new customer. How many more people just pay the bill and believe this is the best quote? Shop around and don't get stung.

| They are crafty b'stards for sure, Mr. Endominada had a right rant about them a few threads back. They purport to offer you everything, entice you with a new customer discount, but watch out if you renew next year because I'll bet you find it goes straight up again after your introductory offer has finished. You are right, surely loyalty should be rewarded not milked for all its worth. Good for you splaying them at their own game. Are you the man with the ZX636?

| I surely did, but it was nothing compared to the spleen I vented on the hapless call-centre salesperson at the time. I didn't bother pretending to be a new customer: told them flat out I was already insured with them, that their renewal quote was a p***-take and that the same policy quote for me from their website was significantly cheaper. Miraculously, they found themselves able to match that price right there and then. It was quite tempting to tell them to shove it as they'd already had their chance when lying to me about the renewal quote being "the best offer available on the market for my needs"! It's not even that I particularly care if the quote doesn't come down year on year. I understand inflation, I'm already old, my records are clean, my NCD is maxed at 9 years and my bike is usually up there in group 17, so fair enough if there's nothing left to cause a big drop from the £300-£400 mark. What really gets me going is when they suddenly sneak in a policy excess hike - as they tried this year, from £250 to £750 (!) - or suddenly "forget", after all this time, that I always go for Business class 1 insurance - as they also tried this year - and drop me back to Social and commuting only. Those both represent a very real, sizeable but sneakily hidden cost increase on the policy. So yes, read ALL the small print and shop around as necessary - but also don't be afraid to go back to your current insurer and demand that they treat you fairly!

| Hey guys!! Sorry its been a while since I last posted (I'll explain all on another thread) I just got my renewal quote through..... £130 TPFT premium! 2 years NCB on that too. I'm quite chuffed to be honest. 23 years, only 2 years worth of riding and it's a 600. Not bad. Gotta call them though as they want to put Breakdown cover and Legal costs so got to ask questions on both of those. What's got my short and curlies is the admin and paper handling fee.......... essentially I'm paying them more to do their job... gits!
Yamaha FZS 600 Fazer ... in gold! Ride safe, and look out for the Rainbow of Death! There're only 3 kinds of people in the world, those who can count, and those that can't. Roses are red, Violets are Blue, I'm a schizophrenic ..... and so am I! Take pity on the man who invented the drawing board, when he screwed up, he had nothing to fall back on. Stuff everything, I've always got my bike.

Sorry haven't posted sooner but yes I'm the guy with the 636, The thing thats annoying is 20 years of no claims which accounts to £7000 approx makes you wonder if you should claim every now and then, to try and recoup some losses

| And while we're on the subject...IPT! Having to pay an extra 5% (17.5% if you're really lucky) of your premium to the Government just for the privilege of being allowed to buy your compulsory insurance. Paying the insurance company extra to do their job is annoying, paying the Exchequer extra for doing sweet FA is - well, about par for the course, I suppose. Surprisingly not dear ol' Gordon's stealth tax to begin with, but he did double it at the first available opportunity. The utter bastard. It may not be much of a secret that I will continue not voting Labour whenever the chance presents itself. I don't much recommend claiming, either. Only had to do it once - for a stolen bike - but it took months of my life and about 350psi of my blood pressure. The word "acrimonious" springs to mind, along with others like "thieving, dishonest, fraudulent scumbags"...

You're not the only one to think that.
On the topic, I usually accept the legal expenses part. It's often only a few quid, and if you have an accident that isn't your fault you should be able to have someone to fight your corner, thus reducung the blood-pressure thing. I say "should" because I have never had to test it in reality. It's more for the peace of mind. I have my own breakdown cover with the RAC, so I always decline that.
