Cheers BD. You make a lot of sense my friend. I know Random appreciates all your coments guys and girls. She has been hunting down bikes with a friend and it does look like a cruiser is the object of her desires.

Now if I can apply the thinking behind BD's coments on how Random can keep her mum happy to how I can get around her mum as my wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1050 Sprint here I come!

Don't slide unless you mean too.

Be sure, ride safe and enjoy

No, no, no - wrong approach. What works for daughters doesn't work for wives - trust me on this.

Lay the law down, insist on your freedom to act as head of the household, remind her that it's your money and you will do as you please with it. Even remind her that the woman in Accounts who was giving you the eye last week has said that she wouldn't stop you doing anything you wanted, and you are considering a transfer.

Then just do as you are told.

Mrs BD and I have a wonderful arrangement. I take all the major decisions, and she takes all the minor ones. I'll leave you to guess who decides what is major and what is minor.

Strategy that sometimes works with Mrs Endo is to add up the imminent cost of consumables and servicing - let's say £200 for tyres, £100 for chain and sprockets, £250 for a full service etc etc, or it would only cost £500 to p/ex the bike for something else and the balance can go towards the [insert suitable bribe] you've always wanted...

Strategy that definitely doesn't work - a friend of mine turning up at home with his unilaterally-just-acquired Ninja 750 responding to the wife's not unexpected question with "Well, I bought you a washing machine last month, didn't I?".

At the moment I'm working on getting a winter hack sorted out on the grounds that it's ever so cheap and wi'll save money in the long run by not completely wrecking my Gixxer over winter. A suitable ****tail of bribery, humbleness and doing the washing-up every night seems to be working...

More or less my argument for getting the XT. We should get together some time and compare notes and strategies. I'm sure we think along the same lines.

Thank you for all the advice guys, it is much appreciated. Like my father said in a previous post I have been looking at bikes and found a couple of nice cruisers. However, I cannot progress any further without selling my car so I have put the word out among my friends to see if anyone is interested. I shall keep you updated about how things go

Hehe, I was kinda hoping for approx 5000 for it, not sure I'd reach that on ebay so I'm going to sell it privately. Start with word of mouth through my friends and move on to an add in the paper if that doesnt work.

BD, I'd be delighted to buy you a beer next time I'm in Wales or you're dahn Sarf!

Good luck with selling the car, random. I'm amazed Hoov hasn't already been on with an offer of a free ad on UKBike, what with it being in a good cause and all...
