hi people, im looking to find out if its a realy bad idea to restrict a 600cc to 33bhp so i can ride it on a restricted access licence.
i want a Honda cbr 600, but is it worth buying a restrictor kit for it? or just get a 250cc and wait??
can i have your thoughts please.
cheers
daz.

Hi Mate wouldn't cost much to restrict a CBR (depending what model it is) if its a carb model I believe the restrictors are literally washers put in the inlets to prevent fuel/air mixture. Kudos would be good I guess as well, But personally I'd take a long hard look at the new Kawasaki Ninja 250R, nice reliable parallel twin, 33bhp straight out the box, possibly cheap insurance and they won't be expensive to buy. Not sure when released but its soon. I reckon they will hold the re-sale value so after a year or so trade up to the full power 600.
Sideways through time

| You hear mixed reports about restrictor kits: works OK on some bikes, others they just strangle. It's not how the bike's designed to operate, rather like riding a full power one everywhere at under 5000 revs. Not good for engine longevity. That said, CBRs seem a reasonably popular choice for restriction, so I'd guess they deal with it OK. Like Hoov, I'd recommend going for a bike that doesn't need restricting, although that does limit choice - and the sportier 250s such as Aprilias still need it as they make over 33bhp out of the box. Now that manufacturers are starting to design bikes to fit the restricted access laws, it's worth going for a new one if your budget allows. If not, a carbed CBR restrictor kit is around £150+fitting.
