I've always found big bikes easier to ride at any sort of speed. Don't feel particularly comfortable with really big, though: all that weight at slow speed or standstill is a bit too much effort to deal with - so I won't be buying a Rocket III, Electraglide or Wing any time soon...

Biggest jump in bike usability I ever experienced was from a 100cc 2-stroke learner to a 550cc 4-stroke four, everything else has been rather more incremental: I was just wondering if, with the advances in bike tech since then, it's still the case that ex-learners still find the same thing once they get off the little 'uns.

PS: Rebelman, if you buy this month's Bike, you get a free copy of Classic Bike with it. Lot of good reading there!

I'm hoping that Ems' silence is a good omen and she is out enjoying her new licence status, so what about it Ems, how did your DAS go?

Hi Blenk,

I'm interested in buying a Harley as a first bike! Ideally I'm after one that I can swap over the pillion seat when not with the Mrs for a one seater for when I go out on my own. I've a budget of £4,000 and am really keen on either the fat boy or the VRod, what would you recommend?

Cheers,
Josh

I ride alone, but I've been riding for a long time. I don't think beginners should ride alone because they don't have as much experience.
