Took a trip to the NEC yesterday to check out all the precious metal. Based on my 10 hour journey there and back (which in terms of mileage should be half that) I wish I'd taken the bike.

Machines of note for me. The new Fireblade looks well trick, new was the CBR1000R (like the wheels)The R6 looks even tricker and the the new for '08 YZFR125 dependant on price will sell like hot cakes, it really makes the well selling CBR125 look positively rubbish. All you learner riders should keep an eye out for the new Megelli's also.

Kawasaki launch a 250 four stroke sports twin bang on 33BHP which should also sell bucket loads. Ktm showed off with their LC8 which was only aced in terms of exclusivity by the Desmoseidieci, I parked my **** on the Hypermotard and the KTM 950 supermotard and it's orange world for me.

Most bizarre bike I reckon was the Victory Vision. Not sure what it's supposed to be a vision of, but luxury tourers who want big cubes should check out the Triumph Rocket 111 tourer, for me more preferable than a Harley and more charachterful than a Wing. BMW had a number of new models, quirky but no doubt highly efficient and their 800GS will probably sell in bucketloads. Benelli showed off their range, still undecided on this lot, do they look good or not? Are they the same model with just modular amendments....Hmmmmm?

Anyway if you went, what took your eye? Pray tell.

Gonna try and post all this and more plus pix when I've got some time on Johnny blog soon, so check it out brothers and sisters. Talking of which it was gratifying to see loads of women at the show. I'm not talking about the totty but the girls and leahdies who were actual riders, bikers and buyers. Good on you gals!

Sideways through time

I'll be going next year, for sure. Why don't we arrange a UKBike presence? Meet up for a beer and a turdburger together?

As to the bikes, well the Benelli looks just plain weird. I've had a look at a few new models in the local dealers recently. They all seem to be styled on massive predatory insects, or Transformers. To be honest, that does nothing for me. I like a bike to look like a bike, whether it's a plain old naked, or a GP-styled sportsbike, or even a cruiser. Bikes that are consciously "styled" with fierce eyes, or insect jaws, just make me think of toys designed for 10-year-old boys.

Has anyone stood behind a B-King and noticed how wide the tank is? (Or rather, the tank plus the plastic mouldings that make it look wider?) I'd swear it's wider than the handlebars. Gross and tasteless. I don't care if it's a good bike, I wouldn't be seen dead on one.

Hoov, did you see the new Guzzi retro, the V7 lookalike? Just seen it in Bike and it looks - er - retro. Must say I like it.
