I found out the other day what the word 'Pillion' actually derives from

Apartently it comes from the word 'Paell' which is Irish for a piece of rug that would sit behind a saddle on a horse so a passenger or 'Paellion' would comfortable... well as comfortable as you can be on a horse.... and the same could be said for some back seats on bikes too!

So there you go.

Ah, so not related to "pillock", then?

PS - I think you must read the same magazines as I do!

Nope AQA... the Sage Of Wisdom. just text 63336 with any question and they can answer it for you... But don't ask about centralfugal force in relation to the forces of precision on a motorbike... you won't have the space and the explination is too long winded that you probably won't understand it.... I didn't!!

Ah, OK.  It's just that I had read that precise bit of information (and had the same reaction as you) in one of the comics this month. Might have been Back Street Heroes or some such.

They gave the Gaelic origin of "pillion" and the cloth/horse/rider bit.  And I thought "hey, I didn't know that".
